The World Health Organization (WHO) recently reported study findings that show there is inadequate evidence to prove coffee is a carcinogen. For the past 25 years, coffee has been classified as “possibly carcinogenic” and linked to bladder cancer, so findings that deem the beverage not carcinogenic will likely provide a sense of relief to those who drink coffee daily.
The new findings are published in The Lancet Oncology, which state a Working Group of 23 scientists across ten countries performed over 1000 studies on both humans and animals to come to this conclusion.
Coffee being found to be non-carcinogenic isyet another benefit for coffee drinkers, but the WHO did find a risk associated with drinking coffee. If consumed too hot, it can lead to esophageal cancer caused by recurring throat inflammation.
On the bright side, several previous studies have proved drinking coffee provides a host of health benefits, including a great source of anti-oxidants. Studies have also shown coffee drinking is linked to prevention of Parkinson’s disease, type II diabetes, and colon cancer.
